Rain and games

NYC coronavirus lockdown
A very empty Union Square

Things seem to be easing up a bit, although that’s come with the mandatory mask-wearing. We’ve had very spring weather for the past week with some beautiful warm days and some days of constant rain. As I write this now, I can hear the rain hitting our AC unit – quite a comforting sound. Thinking back I don’t remember having such a distinct Spring season in NY.

A Weekend Getaway in Quarantine

NYC coronavirus lockdown

It’s been over five and a bit weeks since the lockdown started and two weeks of self-isolating. With that we felt safe for a weekend trip to Long Island.

Discovering the new exciting

NYC coronavirus lockdown

This week began with a bang, quite literally, as a big thunderstorm came over New York. Having my workspace and desk face out a window is nice and especially when you get dramatic weather. It’s always nice to be inside and look out during a thunderstorm but during these times there’s the added bonus of not feeling like you desperately want to be outside when it’s pelting it down with rain.

Long weekend in Nashville – don’t think twice, just go

USA

It was a chilly 40 degrees (just above freezing) in New York, winter coat, woolly hat and gloves weather. The good news: it was Presidents Day, a public holiday. More good news, we weren’t wearing coats either. In-fact, with iced coffee in hand, we were meandering our way to the start of a walking food tour. It was the last day of our three day long weekend escape to Nashville and it was beautiful and sunny.

Four Weeks In

NYC coronavirus lockdown

A lot been going on recently so blog took a back seat. Rather than go back and try and write a post for everyday just going to do a little general update here.

Yesterday’s news from NY governor is the curve looks to be flattening. Cautiously optimistic news.

Friday night: Virtual Happy Hours & Games

NYC coronavirus lockdown

The standing desk has given a completely different dimension to the day. Not only is it a nice break from sitting but it also means I can people watch out of the window. Being on the fourth US floor/third UK floor facing a large building I can’t see the street when sitting down. It’s like choosing a different seat in the office (sort of).

Virtual Social Closeness

NYC coronavirus lockdown

Fewer updates today. Work continues to be busy for me, although getting a bit quieter for Danielle at times. My standing desk arrived so have set that up to use tomorrow.

Community Support

NYC coronavirus lockdown

A colleague shared a very pertinent thought earlier this week. There are only three days at the moment: yesterday, today and tomorrow. Today was apparently also known as Wednesday. Wednesday means a few things: team meetings and date night.

Optimizing the lockdown life

NYC coronavirus lockdown

Today flew by with a tonne of meetings. Trying to make some changes to home office setup, namely ordered an adjustable standing desk and a balance board. Ways to avoid sitting still less. So used to walking from one corner of the office to the other to get to meetings. An 800 sq-ft apartment doesn’t take many steps to get around.

Betting on unknowns

NYC coronavirus lockdown

Monday was one of the quietest days in a while. After the invigorating run on Sunday started to look for any budget home exercise equipment such as a treadmill or running machine. Wanted something that wasn’t too flimsy, but also easily storable and not something that would cost too much – are we going to use it after this over? I don’t know, probably not that much. But also, when is this over?
