First day working remote

Today the whole company did a trial WFH day to prepare for a potential coronavirus lockdown. The idea was to test if we can connect to the networks etc. For the most part everything worked OK, couple of VPN issues aside. Dell team had done an unofficial trial last Friday but it was different knowing the whole company WFH.

A lot of the team had questions towards the end of day as to what is expected and whether we should go in on Friday, although that has been the original official plan.

Everyone’s feeling cautious and supermarket panic buying is starting to set in. It was announced this afternoon that the whole of Broadway is closing, effective immediately, and also all NYC sporting events are cancelled. There was a Man Utd Europa league game today that was played behind closed doors due to the coronavirus. Very surreal watching a competitive fixture in the middle of the season without any crowd.

Tweet of the day:

Advice from a historian in the Boston area: Start keeping a journal today, ideally a hand written one if that’s within your ability. Write about what you’re seeing in the news, how yr friends are responding, what is closed in yr neighborhood or city or state or country. Save it.
