A colleague shared a very pertinent thought earlier this week. There are only three days at the moment: yesterday, today and tomorrow. Today was apparently also known as Wednesday. Wednesday means a few things: team meetings and date night.

From the work front, vacations are getting cancelled. There was a great question about what’s the plan for vacations? A lot of advice suggests to still take days off now to unplug, something which would also help vacation planning. Maybe you know that song, ‘everybody’s living for the weekend’. Right now, it’s the opposite, work provides a great focus and keeps you busy. No one wants to take vacation now; the weekends are too long.

For date night we had plans to support one of our local bars, we stumbled into them near the beginning of this quarantine and found them selling their stock. They’re still going, selling wine bottles for $10, but tonight we ordered some food from them too. We both think we feel worse for them because we’ve physically seen what has happened to their business. The whole bar empty but for some boxes of wine and fridge of beer.

Ordering from them did mean we got to walk outside to pick up the order. First time outside since the weekend. It was nice to see how empty the streets were, despite the idiocy mentioned the other day, at least in this part it seems people are adhering to advice. We picked up the food around 7pm, coinciding with the clap for the healthcare workers (same as the clap for NHS). I hadn’t heard this in person before and it took Danielle (with a nurse friend) to clock what was happening. It’s clear, here and in the UK, there are a lot of people who have been undervalued but now being proven to be essential. Hopefully we can continue to do our bit to support and thank them.
